Penny, a New Year’s Eve “firework dog,” meaning one of the many dogs who were lost when their neighbors set off firecrackers, went missing December 31, 2017 from her home in San Antonio.
One week and one day later, our volunteer and Helping Lost Pets matchmaker, Robbin Skinner Corley, saw a dog who looked like Penny on the San Antonio Animal Care Services PetHarbor.com website.
Above is the San Antonio Animal Care Services found listing that Robbin saw and compared to the Helping Lost Pets lost photo to make this successful match.
Robbin immediately contacted Penny’s owner. Penny’s family went to check it out and sure enough it was Penny! They learned that Penny had surgery that day due to a broken leg. She got to go home and mend with home cooking.
Penny’s story highlights the importance of entering your lost dog’s information into a centralized national database (HelpingLostPets.com is the largest and the most comprehensive) so that volunteer matchmakers around the country, like Robbin, can compare shelter listings with lost pets listings.
Welcome Home Penny! We were thrilled to help!
